The wonderful lakes of Altai are surrounded by beautiful snow-capped mountains. Lakes Khoton and Khurgan are located in the western part of Bayan-Olgiy inTsengel sum. These lakes are the endpoint of about 15 rivers, including Ah su, Elikti, Jagashtai, Baga Turgen, and Ikh Turgen, and are good places for serene vacations. The lakes are also where the Khovd River starts and flows for 500km to the Khar Us Nuur in Khovd aimag. They are connected by a 10km
long river and this spot is the best place to catch big fish.

Achit is a fresh water lake that is located in 80 km east from Olgiy city. It is around 10m deep and a number of small and large rivers flow into it, while a tiny river called Usan Khooloi takes start from it and flow into Khovd river. Fishes like altai bigmouth Osman and Mongolian grayling inhabit of this lakes. In order to preserve pheasants, wild boars, beavers and wild sea-buckthorns in the area near the Devel island between the Usan Khooloi and Khovd river there are taken under special protection.

Arrive in Olgiy where you will meet your English speaking guide, cook, and driver with a loaded van of tour supplies. We will take a full day to drive through stunning and stark landscapes to Khoton and Khurgan Lakes.

Take your fishing gear, we will stay close to the Khovd River so you can fish.

This morning we’ll start our fishing along Khoton Lake. Stunning reflections of neighboring snowcapped peaks drift on its surface. Our guide will tell us a great deal about the environment and the history of the nomadic people of the area as we have a little break. Here, fishing is very good. The fish are bigger in the lake than in surrounded rivers. Fish like the Altai Bigmouth, the Osman and the Mongolian Grayling inhabit the lake. For the very brave, there will be opportunity to swim in the frigid waters or, for the not-so-adventurous, to relax by the lake. The views and atmosphere are very beautiful. Today, we will drive five hours from the south-eastern side of Khoton Lake and stop just before the China-Mongolian border point, at Lake Dayan. The environment is outstanding here, nestled in tremendous valleys and surrounded by the high peaks of the Altai Mountains. Fishing here is good and the fish can grow to enormous sizes in this lake. Lake Dayan is a beautiful place for living and for spending holidays. The area is filled with Kazakh nomadic families. Near Lake Dayan local Kazakhs spend their summer and autumn. Lake Dayan is rich in resources: both of fish and of ancient historical remains.

This lake is particularly popular among local fishermen. We’ll take a full day of fishing at this lake surrounded once again by Bayan-Olgiy’s stunning landscapes.

Tolbo Lake of Altai Mountains is one of the largest fresh water lakes in Mongolia, stretching across a land surrounded by rocky mountains and hills reaching as high as 1,500m. The lake has a number of smaller islands, one of which called Gichgenii Tolgoi (translated as ‘silverweed’).

This island protrudes approximately 4m above the water level and is named “silverweed” because of its resemblance to the plant. 6-7 hour drive from Lake Dayan.

Full day’s drive via Kharanti Valley and over Modon-Koshe mountain (3000m). The landscape is beautiful so be ready for photo shooting.

‘’Blue Goat National Park’’, founded in 1977, stretches across an area of 54.2 by 36 km. The Park is an establishment of the Altai Mountain range. The highest peak of the park is ‘Munkh Tsast’ Mountain (4019m). Sedimentary rocks, iron, crystal, and mineral resources can be found here and Argali sheep, snow leopards, ibex wolves, and marmots call the park’s rugged landscape home. Today’s destination, Dala-Kol Lake, is located in the park beautiful lake with surrounded snow-capped mountains. We will drive for about 4 hours before camping by the lake and enjoying the bountiful fishing. Include

After morning fishing and breakfast, we’ll prepare ourselves to move to Olgiy city. Olgiy is the capital city of Bayan-Olgiy aimag. In Olgiy you will check-in at a local hotel and have a little rest.

In Olgiy, you will be able to visit the local market and Kazakh handicraft and art shops where you can buy gifts to take home with you! The historical and cultural museum in Olgiy is a great place to visit, and from the viewpoint at Nairamdal Tolgoi, or Friendship Mountain, you can see the whole city. Dinner will be at a local restaurant.

After breakfast, transfer to the local airport on time for registration and fly back to Ulaanbaatar. Include

  • The weather condition Mongolia is an acutely continental climatic country. Summers are hot and dry, sometimes with occasional rain, the temperature can fluctuate as much 18 degrees centigrade between day and night. Sometimes severe weather can occur in mountain areas. We are surely ready for any weather condition.
  • What to take along – Waterproof clothes, long underwear for travel in the high mountains, sunscreen, a hat, gloves, comfortable footwear, lip balm, sanitary hand wipes, sunglasses, prescription medications, binoculars, a flashlight.
  • Transport – 4×4 drive car with an experienced driver will take us to the national parks and will pick us up on our way back. We’ll hire local herdsmen with his animals while we are riding and camping. Our herdsmen will choose good horses (saddled up) for us to ride. The tour supplies and gear will be loaded on Bactrian camels. Herdsmen will lead us until the end of the horse ride.
  • Staff – Most of our tours will be guided by Erlan and an assistant guide. Erlan has been leading these kinds of tours for 10 years and he speaks English, Russian, Mongolian, and Kazakh. Also, a cook will follow with an assistant cook. Herdsmen follow us only when we are riding.
  • Food & Meal – Our cooks are excellent at preparing meals. There always will be vegetables available. For vegetarians, our cooks can make food with advanced notice. Every day you will have fresh hot meals for breakfast and dinner. The exception will be lunch, while we are riding. Lunch will be prepared in boxes with snacks and taken with us.
  • Includes – English speaking guide, food (3 times per day), cook, packing horse or camels, all overnights in gers and tents, camping equipment and all local transport /ULN-ULG-ULN flights/, border and national park permits.
  • Excludes – Alcohol, single hotel rooms, international flight tickets.
